About the Artist

Honey by Hand started during the pandemic after students were sent home from universities in March 2020. While the world was figuring out what to do next, I found a creative outlet to cope with the stress and anxiety COVID brought. I found peace in hiking, being outside, and finding whatever time I could to create art. Eventually I completed my undergraduate education and the went to graduate school for geography and cartography.

My art started taking shape in the form of cartographic work. While building my professional portfolio of maps and geographic analysis, I always felt the pull back to maps taking a more artistic style. I liked the technical work, and I was always interested in how maps could be used to communicate ideas and places to a broader audience. That’s what pushed me to start combining accurate geography with illustration and design.

After traveling and visiting national parks and other places, I started using those experiences as the foundation for my work. Many of my designs are based on real locations I’ve visited and aim to reflect their character in a simple, approachable way.
